The ACBS Classic Boat Club of Northern Europe is the latest chapter member in the world's largest club for vintage boats, the Antique and Classic Boat Society, headquartered in the USA.
Officially founded on May 18, 2023 at the international meeting of the ACBS in Bordeaux/France, almost 20 international vintage boat fans, mainly from the northern part of Europe, with their approx. 50 represented boats, decided to found a new ACBS chapter - the ACBS Classic Boat Club of Northern Europe. Or as we like to say: "ACBS Nordic".
These 20 pioneers are each members of their local or national clubs, e.g. the "Motor Yacht Society" (MYS) in Sweden, the Finnish boat club "Suomen Puuveneilijät" or the "Oldieboote”-Club in Germany. However, we have also made a conscious decision to think beyond national borders, to focus on the cultural asset "vintage boat" and to further promote the exchange between our respective clubs.
The foundation was driven by Bjørn Bakken (Norwegian, currently living in the USA), Jani Vahto (from Finland) and Torben Kasimzade (from Germany). They are the faces behind the new Nordic chapter in order to bring the classic boating world even closer together. Especially in today's world it is important to look beyond borders, build bridges and learn from experts on both sides of the Atlantic and across Northern Europe and share the passion for what is probably the most beautiful hobby imaginable.
Although Bjørn, Jani and Torben are already active in the respective boat associations in their home countries (and ACBS Nordic does not serve as a competitor, rather as an international complement to them), they were always missing an active exchange on an international level and between the countries they respresented. This is thus the main objective of the new ACBS Nordic-chapter.
